Directions by Road
Exeter follow the A38 towards Plymouth.
Turn off at the Ashburton turning and follow the A384 to Totnes.
At the first set of traffic lights in Totnes turn right onto the A381 and follow the signs to Kingsbridge ……...
The easiest route - In the centre of Kingsbridge you take the A379 to Dartmouth, alongside the estuary. Follow this road until you reach Torcross. Drive round the back of the fresh water lake, past the village shops and the bus pull-in. Where the "pay and display" parking starts alongside the road, you will see a triple white garage door opposite. The alleyway to the left of this garage leads to the front door of Startlea House.
The most picturesque route - From Totnes follow the A381 towards Kingsbridge. Follow this road as far as the village of Halwell. By the church turn left up the hill, the top follow the signs to Dartmouth. Continue along this road until you pass the 'Woodlands Leisure Park' and 'Dartmouth Golf Club'. About 300 yards past the golf club entrance, turn right signposted to Strete and Torcross. At the post office in Strete, turn right again along the coast to Torcross. At the far end of the beach, drive into Torcross, past the Sherman Tank Memorial and the Startbay Inn. In another 100 yards you will come to Startlea House on the left hand side of the road. As you leave the village of Strete, enjoy the view across Slapton Beach to Start Point in the distance.
If you get as far as the shops you have gone too far!
We advise against coming across the ferry at Dartmouth as there can be very long delays at busy periods. Unfortunately, Sat Nav directions will either bring you this way or will bring you through some very narrow lanes.
